FAQs

  • Can I still participate in treatments if I don’t have insurance?

For patients who do not have insurance, we offer multiple self pay package options that are discounted from insurance rates and by number of sessions purchased.

  • How can I prepare for my initial appointment?

Please have your prescription (if applicable) and insurance card available when you call. This will allow us to verify your insurance benefits before your visits and provide you with an estimate of coverage.

To bring on your first visit:

    • In case of an automobile accident or worker’s compensation claim, bring any case manager or insurance adjuster contact names, phone numbers, and claim number.
    • A prescription (if needed) for physical therapy from your referring practitioner.
    • If you're participating in our Diabetic Shoe and Insert program, then ensure that you have both an orthotic/shoe prescription and the Certifying Letter form (it has two feet on it) that is filled out and signed by a MD or DO.
    • Insurance information (we will make a copy).
    • Photo ID (we will make a copy).
    • Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete your short paperwork.
    • Please wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your problem areas.
  • Do you take my insurance?

We understand navigating insurance can be confusing, so Tennessee Sports Medicine Group will be happy to assist in contacting your insurance company and determining your coverage based on your individual policy.

For more information, visit our insurance plan page, and please do not hesitate to contact our Knoxville physical therapy office. We do offer different payment options for your convenience as well.

  • Will I be able to continue with my sessions even after recovery?

Yes, once you have met your goals, your therapist will review your home exercise program with you and give you ways to advance it as you can.

We also offer many ancillary services that can continue to aid in your health, fitness, and be another tool in preventing future injury. Our Active Isolated Stretching packages, massage packages, and personal training sessions can all be booked separately, outside of physical therapy and without insurance!

  • What does payment look like?

Your insurance benefits will be determined, preferably before your visit visit, but absolutely by your second visit, and you will be informed of what, if any, payment when those benefits have been received. We also offer self pay packages if you do not have insurance.

We accept cash, check, debit cards, credit cards, and CareCredit. We are happy to discuss payment plan options as well. We do not want financial reasons to be the reason someone cannot get better.

  • What should I wear for my PT treatments?

Dress comfortably in clothes that allow easy access for the therapist to examine your problem areas. Loose-fitting clothes, such as athletic gear and tennis shoes, if you have them, are preferred. We do have lockers and showers, should you need them!

  • How long should I expect my appointments to be?

Although all patients are different, typically, the first session lasts for 1 hour 30 minutes. Each session after that is normally 75-90 minutes. Our model is comprehensive and thorough, which is why you receive longer, quality care in order to maximize your progress each visit.

The amount of time will be based on your specific needs, and your therapist will discuss this with you. We work in teams, so your therapist and his team will treat you each visit. How many times per week that you will need to come will be determined after your initial evaluation and then re-evaluated at every progress visit or major shift in your progress.

  • What should I know about physical therapy treatments?

With physical therapy, it’s important to know that the overall goal is to restore pain-free mobility and function and to prevent the injury or pain from recurring.

Our physical therapists evaluate your movement patterns, identify the cause of your pain, and work to manage or eliminate it altogether.

Physical therapists are trained medical experts when it comes to musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Physical therapy is a medical, hands-on approach to relieving pain and restoring function and we can assure you that we are like no other!

While every patient’s condition and pain is unique, our physical therapist will use a variety of hands-on techniques, functional exercises, and equipment to relieve pain quickly and restore your function to optimum levels.

  • Will physical therapy help me find relief?

Our physical therapy is different than all the rest. We're not going to give you some general advice and sheets of paper to do exercises at home. Are you going to get a home program, absolutely. But during your 75 minute appointments, you're also going to be receiving hands-on stretching on the table, be performing your exercises in house, under supervision for proper form, be performing regular, objective testing for measurement of progress, and be given medical facts regarding your condition, symptoms, goals, progress, and ongoing plan. Our job is to find your root cause in order to provide relief and then prevent the reoccurrence of pain and injury. Call us today to discuss your current condition or request an appointment now.

  • How can I know if you treat my condition?

Rest assured, our therapists are highly trained to evaluate and treat your condition.

Our physical therapists have graduated from accredited physical therapy programs at the doctorate level and are state-licensed.

Physical therapists have years of university-level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology (the study of joint movement), neurology, and many of the other medical sciences. In addition to college, we pride ourselves on continual learning and growth. All of our staff participates in bi-weekly educational seminars in order to stay on the cutting edge of knowledge and technology. You’re in good hands!

  • How do I go about scheduling an appointment?

Our scheduling process is quick and we offer an array of appointment times for you, beginning at 7am and taking our last patient at 5pm M-F. We also have Saturday hours! We will need your insurance information before your appointment, so make sure to have that handy. We also offer self pay packages if you do not have insurance. We understand that your time is valuable and we have structured our schedule in an attempt to meet the demands of your busy schedule. • How can I begin treatments with a physical therapist?

Our clinic in Knoxville prides itself on providing a positive, encouraging environment with expertly-trained, friendly staff.  We are confident in our ability to help you reach your goals and live a pain-free life.

You have the right to receive physical therapy at any facility you choose, even if your doctor sent you to another facility. In fact, most insurances don't require a doctor's referral at all, with the exception of government sponsored plans, such as Medicare, Tenncare, Tricare, Amerigroup, etc. However, we do still accept these insurances and can get you scheduled once you have the appointment with your physician to get a referral!

At Tennessee Sports Medicine Group, you will receive the highest quality care while achieving the results you are in search of.
