Nutrition Services

At Tennessee Sports Medicine Group, we strive to provide our clients with the most dynamic and holistic approach to health and healing. Currently, our medical management system incorporates physical medicine, rehabilitation, personal training, active isolated stretching, and we have recently expanded our program to include functional and integrative nutritional services provided by a licensed and registered dietitian nutritionist.

The scientific literature shows us that the foods we eat dramatically impact our bodies and play a critical role in reducing cell inflammation of:

  • Organ Systems
  • Musculoskeletal Tissues,
  • Nerves
  • Blood Vessels

Therefore, nutrition plays a role in overall health, including our ability to heal from injury. We believe nutrition is the missing component needed to treat the whole person and we strive to provide our patients with this essential tool for success.

I Want to Know More…

Our integrative and functional nutrition services involve an individual nutrition assessment for macro-, micro-, and phytonutrients, and a client-centered approach to strategize, set goals and impart behavior changing techniques. It includes a personalized meal plan with cooking techniques, bio-impedence scale to determine and track fat, muscle and bone mass, strategic goal setting, and ongoing monitoring, coaching, and evaluation of diet interventions to ultimately incite a positive health transformation.

The Institute for Functional Medicine describes Functional Nutrition as “finding the right way for each of us as individuals to eat—using food to maximize the potential for health and reverse dysfunction or disease. There is no single “right diet” that applies to all of us. We have different genetic backgrounds, different preferences, and different lives. We all want to be healthy, but most of us haven’t figured out just how to make food and dietary patterns serve that goal. Functional Nutrition offers the concepts, strategies, and tools to make that happen!”

The following are examples of conditions where nutrition intervention can be beneficial:

  • Weight management
  • Chronic pain
  • Fatigue
  • Tissue healing
  • Preparation for competitions or races
  • Strategic meal planning
  • Increasing energy levels
  • Nutrition therapy for certain disease states, i.e. diabetes, heart disease

We take a client-centered approach to work with our patients to strategize, set goals, and evaluate progress.  Currently, her services include individual nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, counseling, and follow-up evaluations.
